The City of Columbia has a Rental Unit Conservation Law aimed at ensuring rental properties are safe and well-maintained. This law requires all residential rental properties, including apartments, duplexes, single-family homes, and owner-occupied homes with tenants, to be licensed.

Currently, the program oversees more than 27,800 housing units and nearly 10,000 structures. The law also provides tenants the right to file complaints if landlords fail to address maintenance issues.

For property registration or concerns about rental status in Columbia, residents can contact Neighborhood Services via email at [email protected], call 573.874.2489, or visit CoMo.gov.

Columbia's vision is to be the best place for everyone to live, work, learn, and play. The city's mission is to serve the public equitably through democratic, transparent, and efficient government.

Residents can report problems or seek additional information by contacting the City Manager’s Office at 701 E. Broadway or P.O. Box 6015 in Columbia, MO 65205. They can also reach out via phone at 573.874.CITY (2489) or follow @CoMoGov on social media.

The City of Columbia remains committed to maintaining high standards for rental housing safety and upkeep.
