MU Health Care is advising patients experiencing mild flu and respiratory virus symptoms to utilize Quick Care locations and On-Demand Telehealth services. This recommendation comes as a response to the recent increase in flu cases that have overwhelmed Urgent Cares and Emergency Departments.
On-Demand Telehealth offers a quicker, more convenient way for patients to connect with MU Health Care providers using smartphones, tablets, or computers. The service operates from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and enrollment is free. It promises privacy and security while being in-network with many insurance providers. Each visit is treated like a standard appointment with applicable copays, while self-pay visits cost $64 for those without insurance coverage. “On-Demand Telehealth is a great option for patients with mild flu or respiratory virus symptoms,” said Jonathan Heidt, MD, an emergency medicine physician. “We can address symptom management at home, determine Tamiflu eligibility and assist with work note requests. Patients who need testing, those with more serious symptoms and at-risk patients such as the very young or elderly should seek in-person care.”
For those needing in-person testing due to mild flu symptoms, primary care clinics offer same-day sick appointments though availability may be limited. Mizzou Quick Care provides another alternative where appointments can be scheduled online for Columbia locations or through walk-ins at the Jefferson City location.
