At their August 19 meeting, the Columbia City Council unanimously approved an increase for water utility rates across all residential and commercial customer tiers. The new rate structure will take effect with the first billing cycle in October.
Residents can estimate their water utility bill based on the approved rate structure by using the City’s interactive Water Bill Calculator. Customers can log in to MyUtilityBill.CoMo.gov to track their water usage.
Water usage fees are measured in hundred cubic feet (ccf). All non-summer (October through May) water usage will increase 12 cents to $3.22 per ccf.
These proposed changes were designed to implement a revenue increase for water utility capital improvements. They are also due to increasing costs related to operations and maintenance, and to ensure the City can meet its financial obligations.
Ongoing operation and maintenance work allows the Water Utility to supply safe drinking water and fire protection services to our customers. The Utility operates a well field in the Missouri River bottoms, the McBaine Water Treatment Plant, pump stations, elevated water towers, and a water distribution system.
City Source is mailed out monthly to all City of Columbia utility customers and is available free of charge at City Hall. It is produced by the Creative Services and Marketing and Engagement and Public Communication divisions.
