Missouri women’s basketball falls to Maryville in overtime preseason exhibition

Mizzou women’s basketball lost to Maryville 90-84 in overtime during a preseason exhibition game at Mizzou Arena on Tuesday night.

Grace Slaughter, a junior guard, led Missouri with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Senior forward Jordana Reisma added 21 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks. Junior guard Shannon Dowell contributed 19 points, nine rebounds, and three steals.

Missouri started the game strong offensively with a 16-0 run. In her debut for the Tigers, Dowell made an impact early with seven points and five rebounds in the first quarter. The Tigers’ defense prevented Maryville from scoring a field goal in the opening five minutes.

At the end of the first quarter, Slaughter completed a three-point play to give Missouri a 19-8 lead. The team maintained its advantage through much of the second quarter as Sotell made consecutive jumpers. As halftime approached, Reisma added a block, layup, and defensive rebound to help Missouri lead 29-25 at the break.

In the third quarter, Reisma scored ten of her total points but Maryville gained momentum and took a five-point lead into the fourth quarter. Both teams traded baskets throughout the final period. Slaughter continued to be effective on both ends of the court.

A fast-break layup by Smith tied the score at 62 before Kroenke gave Missouri a brief lead late in regulation. Slaughter scored ten of her points in the last quarter while Smith tied it again at 76 with under one minute left. After another exchange of scores, regulation ended with both teams tied at 78.

Overtime saw both teams take turns leading until Maryville secured the win in the final minutes after connecting on key possessions.

Missouri will start its regular season against Central Arkansas at Mizzou Arena on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The game will air on SECN+ and Tiger Radio Network.
